Looking for help
The Municipality of Milan’s Anti-Violence Network brings together organizations across the city that work to combat gender-based violence and support women on their journeys toward freedom.
Through its network of anti-violence centers and shelters, the Network can support you if:
You are a woman or a girl wondering, “Is this abuse?”
Anti-violence centers are safe spaces open to all women and to people who are close to them.
You can access support freely and free of charge, either by phone or in person. You will be listened to without judgment and your privacy will be respected. You can talk to professionals experienced in supporting women affected by violence and work together to find a way out of the abuse.
They offer:
- Telephone support
- In-person support
- Civil and criminal law advice
- Psychological support
- Psychotherapy
- Employment and training guidance
- Support in finding independent housing
- Accommodation in shelters
- Self-help and mutual support groups
- Healthcare and medico-legal support

You are supporting a woman or a girl and wondering
“How can I help her?”
If you have noticed signs such as changes in her behavior or mood, her becoming more withdrawn or avoiding social situations, unexplained marks on her body, signs that her partner is controlling her, or if she has asked you for support:
- Listen to her and don’t try to take over or make decisions for her
- Stand by her, even if she makes decisions you don’t understand or agree with
- Don’t judge her
- Respect her pace and her choices
- Let her know she can contact an anti-violence center
- Speaking to an anti-violence center can be helpful for you, too
